| 2009 Accommodations For Lost Leave |
Worried about losing leave?
As part of the move to a biweekly payroll, the leave year is starting earlier in 2009 than in past years. This is because the leave year must begin in the pay period that contains Jan. 1, and this year that pay period runs from Dec. 21 to Jan. 3. If you have lost leave in the past or are in danger of losing leave this year, you might be worried about that new, earlier date.
Good news! If you are in a "use or lose" situation by Dec. 21 when the new leave year starts, we will add the hours you are going to lose back in to your balance (up to 80 hours) and leave them until Jan. 17 (the end of the second pay period in January). This way, you can use them over the holidays.
Starting Dec. 21, Classified Staff will see their carry-forward balance plus up to 80 hours additional in their Annual Leave drop down in SSTL. University Staff will see two categories of leave:
- 2010 University Staff Leave, with the new allotment awarded in full on Dec. 21 and any carry-forward allowed in the new leave plan from their old Annual Leave; and
- The 2009 Annual Leave, the use or lose balance (up to 80 hours) available to them until Jan. 17.
Any use or lose hours still unused by Jan. 17 will then be lost permanently. Family Personal and Sick leave are not going to be forwarded this way.
Note: This accomodation is being made for the 2009 Use or Lose hours only.
If you have any questions, contact Payroll at 924-4350.
