The supervisor and the employee at the beginning of the evaluation cycle determine work plans and development needs. At the end of the cycle goals and achievements are reviewed by the supervisor with the employee.
New Employee Orientation: Useful resources for new employees and their supervisors.
Faculty/Staff Resource Fair: A welcome celebration created to honor newly hired faculty and staff. The fair is hosted two times annually, and currently held in Newcomb Hall. A diverse range of departments participate to welcome new employees and educate them regarding the Universities many opportunities and benefits.
Unemployment Compensation: This program ensures that employees receive full benefits under the entitlements of the Virginia Unemployment Compensation Act and, at the same time, ensures that the University's liability is limited to legitimate claims. Employee Relations processes unemployment claims, answers questions and attends Unemployment Compensation hearings.
U.Va. Employee Travel Opportunities: The travel program is open to current and retired faculty and staff and their guests. Volunteers and others who work on the grounds are also eligible to participate.
Service Awards: The University honors each classified and Medical Center non-faculty long-service employee at an annual service awards ceremony or banquet and presents him/her with a service award certificate, jewelry, and/or an appropriate gift. Employees who have completed ten years of non-faculty service and each succeeding five years of service will be honored.
Disciplinary Process: The University of Virginia has a set of rules governing the professional and personal conduct and acceptable standards for work performance of employees. Termed Standards of Conduct, these rules are designed and used to correct behavior. These Standards were developed to protect the wellbeing and rights of all employees.
Employee Suggestion Program: It is the Commonwealth's objective to promote agencies' employee suggestion programs (ESP) whereby employees can be recognized and rewarded for adopted ideas that improve their agencies' and state government's operations.
