UNIVERSITY PAYROLL DISTRIBUTION AND EARNING STATEMENT DISTRIBUTION
Effective July 1, 1997, the University of Virginia implemented new policies regarding payroll distribution and earnings statement distribution. Implementation of these policies made these distribution systems more efficient and less labor intensive at the departmental level. All University of Virginia employees (except UVaTemps) paid through the University of Virginia payroll system will be affected by these policies in the manner described below.
Payroll Distribution Policy Under the payroll distribution policy, direct deposit of paychecks became mandatory for all new employees (except UVaTemps) hired on or after July 1, 1997. Employees who declined to sign up are required to pick up paychecks at University Human Resources (UHR) at 914 Emmet Street. UHR is open for check distribution from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Employees will be required to pick up their own checks and provide picture identification (i.e., they cannot authorize another individual to pick up their checks).
All exceptions to this policy must be approved in writing by the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President and Provost for Health Sciences, or the Vice President and Provost, as appropriate.
Earnings Statement Distribution Policy Description Effective September 1, 1997, the University of Virginia began distributing earnings statements through U.S. mail and stopped distributing them through home departments. It is University policy to send earnings statements only to an employee's home address, local address, or P.O. Box. Earnings statements will not be sent to messenger mail work addresses. Earnings statements that are returned by the U.S. Postal Service as undeliverable will be held in UHR Payroll Division for a period of two months.
