Reference Check Policy for Applicants

To ensure UVa employees are well qualified and have a strong potential to be productive and successful, UVa conducts academic and work reference checks upon receipt of the application. University Staffing provides the results of reference checks or performance evaluations to University employing officials on a confidential/need-to-know basis. Third party reference information is confidential and is not available to applicants.

Hiring officials are ultimately responsible for conducting in-depth reference checking, as part of the selection decision. Reference checks should be conducted prior to selecting a final candidate.
