Criminal Conviction Check
The University conducts criminal conviction checks on all applicants who have been recommended for hire. All criminal convictions must be disclosed on the application for employment. Convictions are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, considering the nature of position, the seriousness and date of the conviction, and the honesty of the applicant in completing the application form.
The applicant will be required to complete a form, which authorizes the University to have a criminal conviction check performed. If the applicant does not complete the form, or if the results of the investigation are unsatisfactory, an official offer will not be extended.
The University of Virginia Application for Employment requires information concerning law violation convictions including moving traffic violations. Applicants are required to disclose all such convictions (which have not been overturned) including those that occurred under a name other than the name on the application form. Arrests, as opposed to convictions, should not be noted on the application. Convictions disclosed on the application form will not be used to influence the selection process if they are not considered by the University to be related to the duties of the position.
