Faculty & Staff Employee Relations Functions and Responsibilities
The Faculty & Staff Employee Relations Division administers many policies, plans, programs, and laws intended to meet the needs of or to protect our employees. Alan S. Cohn is the Director of Faculty & Staff Employee Relations.
This division consists of two functional areas: Employee Relations (924-6263) and Unemployment Compensation (924-4430).
Employee Relations
This division ensures that the needs, rights, and privileges of our employees are maintained and protected at all times. The division does the following:
- Provides counseling services to employees.
- Administers policies such as the Performance Evaluation, Employee Standards of Conduct and Performance, Grievance Procedure, and Layoff policies.
- Administers the Service Awards, Exit Interview, Employee Suggestion Program (E.S.P.), Employee Relations Management Seminars, and Employee Travel Program.
- Serves on Employee Communication Councils and participates in Supervisory Training Programs.
Unemployment Compensation
This subdivision ensures that employees receive full benefits under the entitlements of this Act and at the same time ensures that the University's liability is limited to legitimate claims. To accomplish these objectives the division must:
- Process unemployment claims received by the Virginia Employment Commission.
- Answer questions about the Virginia Unemployment Compensation Act.
- Attend Unemployment Compensation hearings.
