New Restructuring Comments / FAQs Posted Online

Dear Colleagues:

HR Restructuring represents an important University-wide initiative that will affect the entire University community for years to come. The public comment period to review and provide feedback on the recommendations for the new University Staff human resources system ended on June 30, 2008. More than 1,000 comments and suggestions were received from members of the University community through our website and paper forms. We are thrilled with the level of interest and participation in this monumental project, and would like to thank those individuals who are taking the time to get involved.

All comments that were submitted have been forwarded to the employee Task Forces for review and consideration. This process will be complete by the end of July. A number of the comments you submitted actually took the form of a question about Restructuring. Therefore, while the Task Forces do their work, we have begun answering those questions and posted them on http://www.hrs.virginia.edu/restructuring/faq.html in the format of “Frequently Asked Questions”. We will post more answers weekly, so check back if you don’t find the answer to your question. Additionally, when the Task Forces complete their work, we will post each proposed change to a recommended policy, and its outcome (whether the suggestion was implemented, partially implemented, or not implemented, and why).

While the Task Forces work to complete their recommendations, we are busy developing the procedures, forms, tools and training for the new system to prepare for the October to December enrollment period, and for the start of the new system in January. I ask for your patience during this period as we work through this process. Please know that I will continue to keep you informed of our progress. It is important for all employees to have information to make an informed enrollment decision, and we are committed to providing you with that information at the beginning of the enrollment period.

If you posed a question to us in the comment period, I hope you will take the time to review the responses. If you have additional questions, you can submit them to HRrestructuring@virginia.edu and we will continue to review and post them to “Frequently Asked Questions”.

Thank you again for your continued involvement and support of this important initiative.

Sincerely,

Susan A. Carkeek
Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer
