Supervisor Orientations June 24 and June 26 at Alumni Hall Ballroom
As a part of the Human Resources Restructuring effort, two Supervisor Orientation sessions are being offered on June 24th and 26th. The Orientations are an opportunity for supervisors to learn about the proposed recommendations for the new University Staff system and to understand how those recommendations may impact them as supervisors.
In addition to providing an overview of the draft recommendations, the orientation will begin to introduce how such things as hiring, conducting performance planning and evaluations, pay actions, and more may be impacted by the proposed University staff policies. The Orientations will be held at the Alumni Hall Ballroom on Tuesday, June 24th from 1:00 till 3:00 p.m., and Thursday, June 26th from 9:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m.
This is an introductory program to begin to make supervisors aware of the differences emerging in the new University Staff HR system. There will be more in depth training offered this fall once the policies are finalized.
As part of the Commonwealth's Higher Education Restructuring initiative, nearly 300 of your fellow employees from across grounds have been working on task forces to help design a system that will allow U.Va. to recruit, retain, and develop a superior workforce to meet the future needs of the University. The restructured system will have new policies for career development, performance evaluation, and compensation, among others. These draft policy recommendations are currently available for comment throughout the University community.
University staff (all employees hired after July 1, 2006) will automatically be enrolled in the new system effective January 2009. This fall, classified staff (those hired before July 1, 2006) and Administrative and Professional faculty, will have the opportunity to enroll in this new system for January 2009. As a result, many of us will be supervising both classified staff and University staff, with different policies for each.
