Career Expos June 10-11 at John Paul Jones Arena
A series of Career Expos is scheduled to introduce the draft career paths that will support the new University Staff human resource system. The Career Expos are designed to introduce the draft career paths to the University community and to encourage employee input as they are being built. The Expos will be held at John Paul Jones Arena on Tuesday, June 10th from 2:00 till 6:00 p.m., and Wednesday, June 11th from 8:00 a.m. till 12:00 noon. Members of the employee task forces will be available to discuss how the paths were developed and to assist employees in providing comments.
As part of the HR Restructuring initiative, nearly 300 employees from across Grounds have been working on task forces to help design a system that will allow U.Va. to recruit, retain, and develop a superior workforce to meet the future needs of the University. In addition to the policy recommendations that are currently available for comment, the employee task forces have developed draft career paths to guide employees in their career development.
There are 73 career paths identified to-date, in the following 15 career families:
- Academic & Student Services
- Arts
- Athletics
- Communications
- Development & Constituent Engagement
- Facilities
- Finance
- General Administration
- Healthcare
- Human Resources
- Information Technology
- Library Services
- Operations
- Protective Services
- Research
The career paths identify essential skills for employees as they grow and enrich their careers. These Career Paths will create a common “language” that will be used to support new policies in the following areas:
Training & Development – The skills included in the career paths will form the basis for new training and development offerings.
Staffing – The skills included in the career paths will be used to create new job postings, and will provide better visibility for employees to match their skills to new opportunities.
Performance Planning & Evaluation – The skills included in the career paths will be used in the new performance planning and evaluation process.
Compensation – The policy recommendations provide increased opportunities to reward employees for acquiring skills. The career paths serve as guides to the skills valued in each career.
If you would like to take a UTS bus to the JPJ Arena, use the U-Hall stop on either the blue or the green line. Buses run every 20 minutes from stops around Grounds.
