New Benefit Offerings
May 12 , 2008
University Human Resources is pleased to announce two great new benefits that go in to effect July 1, 2008: a new educational benefit and funding model, and Back-up Child and Elder Care Services. Below is some brief information on each. This is the first of several communications we will be sending out to the University community about these new benefits. More detailed information will be sent out later this month.
Educational Benefits
Announcing an exciting new benefit for all benefits-eligible faculty and staff that broadens access to educational opportunities! For classes starting on or after July 1, departments will no longer have to pay for individual employees' tuition costs. Instead, we are:
- Shifting the education benefit to centrally funded model
- Providing each employee $2000 per year, not to exceed seven undergraduate credits per semester or six graduate credits
- Departments may supplement that amount at the department's discretion, within the maximum seven undergraduate or six graduate credits per semester

Back-Up Care Options
The University is pleased to announce a new benefit providing Backup Care Options for your loved ones. We are thrilled to be able to offer this new service to our benefit-eligible employees. This service is being offered through an outside vendor called “Work Options Group”.
Examples of times when you might need Backup Care Options are described on the flyer available by clicking here.
Here are some of the program highlights:
- The care can be center-based or in-home
- Each employee receives a benefit of 10 days per year
- There is a low daily co-pay of $15 for center-based care and $30 for in-home care
- Employees are billed for this charge (no money changes hands at point of service)
- No sign-up is necessary - though you can pre-register now - for example, if your provider is going on a planned vacation
- You can be reimbursed for this service through our Flexible Spending Account vendor, Chard-Snyder, for children up to the age of 13
Because this benefit starts mid way through the plan year, every employee starts with a bank of five days for the remaining six months of 2008. The bank will "reset" to 10 days as of January 1, 2009. Stay tuned for another email closer to the program launch date of July 1, 2008!
