Day of Caring Leave Policy Announced
The Office of Community Relations recently announced this year’s annual United Way Laurence E. Richardson Day of Caring, to be held on September 19, 2007. University Human Resources is proud to join with the rest of the University administration in promoting this community service program. Over the next two months, University employees will sign up to work with local volunteers on that day. As in years past, the decision has been made to allow salaried employees to treat this event as “Hours Worked” rather than requiring them to use “Community Leave.”
Employees should make requests for the Day of Caring to their supervisors as far in advance as possible. Supervisors are asked to balance support of the Day of Caring with the business needs of their unit. Salaried employees should record this time on their University Time Management (UTM) forms as hours worked. As always, employees are required to use appropriate leave balances for community service work performed outside of the Day of Caring.
