New Award Limit for Reward & Recognitioni Policy for Classified Staff

MEMORANDUM

DATE: September 7, 2005
TO: Vice Presidents, Deans, and Department Heads
FROM:

Yoke San Reynolds
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

SUBJECT: New Award Limit for Reward & Recognition Policy for Classified Staff
Effective July 1, 2005, the Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) has increased the total monetary and/or non-monetary award limit for the Reward & Recognition Policy to $2,000 per classified employee per fiscal year.  Prior to July 1, the recognition award limit per classified employee was $1,000 per fiscal year.  Funding of recognition awards must come from existing school and department budgets.

Schools and departments should update their written plans, previously approved in 2001/02 by their respective Vice Presidents, if they wish to use the new award limit.  The written plans enable us to confirm that proposed awards are appropriately administered within your area and are in compliance with University policy.  Please send your revised written plan to Jonette Aughenbaugh, UHR Assistant Director of Compensation & Rewards (jla9u@virginia.edu), with a copy to your Vice President.

The award limit for recognition leave remains unchanged.  Recognition leave of up to five workdays may be awarded to a salaried (non-wage) classified employee in a calendar (leave) year (January 10-January 9).  The value of recognition leave awarded will not be included in the computation of the $2,000 award limit per employee per year.
An eligible employee may receive the maximum monetary and/or non-monetary award AND the maximum recognition leave award.
