This announcement provides updated information related to the University's observance of official
recognized holidays for 2005. Please share this information
with your staff.
Recently the Department of Human Resource
Management (DHRM) announced that the Governor has granted
additional holiday time for this upcoming Thanksgiving (4 hours)
and Christmas (8 hours) holiday season. As we communicated
earlier this year in the 2005 Holiday Memo (http://www.hrs.virginia.edu/mgrmemos/holidaysched05.html)
we will award these additional twelve (12) hours granted as
compensatory time (float time).
This additional holiday time will be
credited to salaried classified employees and research
assistants compensatory special leave balances on the date
designated by the state, and must be used within 12 months of
the date earned. Hours for part-time qualifying employees will
be pro-rated. Following are the dates on which the additional
time will be credited to leave balances:
Hours Credited |
Date Credited to Leave Balances |
4 hours compensatory special |
Nov. 23, 2005 |
8 hours compensatory special |
Dec. 22, 2005 |
For general faculty, the additional 12 hours of leave
should be scheduled with individual managers, and must be used
within 12 months.
While managers are asked to give maximum consideration to
employees’ preferences for using this leave, they must
coordinate it so offices are adequately staffed to provide
uninterrupted service to the public.
