Holiday Schedule for Fiscal 2002-2003

MEMORANDUM

DATE: April 22, 2002
TO: Deans, Department Heads and Other Administrative Officers
FROM: Thomas E. Gausvik
Chief Human Resource Officer
SUBJECT: University Academic Division:
Holiday Schedule for Fiscal Year 2002 - 2003

To provide the University community adequate time to plan services and employee work schedules, the holiday schedule has been developed for the upcoming fiscal year.

We recognize that any one observed holiday may be less than ideal for some activities. In those instances, services should be maintained and compensatory leave awarded to those required to work. Such compensatory leave should be taken as soon as possible but not later than 12 months following the holiday worked. Employees who must work on a holiday should be given adequate advance notice for personal planning purposes.

The following is the University Academic Division's 2002-03 holiday schedule:
Thursday, July 4, 2002 Independence Day
Monday, September 2, 2002 Labor Day
Thursday, November 28, 2002 Thanksgiving Day
Friday, November 29, 2002 Day after Thanksgiving
Tuesday, December 24, 2002 Christmas Eve Day
Wednesday, December 25, 2002 Christmas Day
Thursday, December 26, 2002 Day after Christmas Day
Tuesday, December 31, 2002 New Year's Eve Day
Wednesday, January 1, 2003 New Year's Day
Monday, January 20, 2003 Martin Luther King Day
Friday, March 7, 2003 Spring Break Day
Monday, May 26, 2003 Memorial Day

Additional holidays that may be granted by the Governor will be observed as "float" days and added to compensatory leave balances

To be eligible for holiday pay, a University (Agency 207 or 246) employee must have worked 50% of the last scheduled work day before and 50% of the first scheduled work day after the holiday or have charged such scheduled time before and after the holiday to earned leave balances. If either of those conditions is not met, the employee may not be paid for the holiday.

New University employees hired Friday, December 27, 2002, which is the first scheduled workday for the pay period beginning December 25, will receive holiday pay for December 25 and December 26.

University employees who are resigning or retiring at the end of the December 24, 2002 pay period must work the last scheduled work day (for most workers this will be Monday, December 23rd) or have that day charged to approved leave.

University employees who are resigning and wish to receive holiday pay for December 25 and December 26 must work Friday, December 27, 2002.

University employees who are resigning and wish to receive holiday pay for the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day holidays (December 31st and January 1st) must work Tuesday, January 2, 2003.
