Governor
Warner has authorized the equivalent of one day to be added
(8 hours) to the Commonwealth of Virginia holiday schedule.
Since the University is on an alternate holiday schedule this
day will be observed in the Academic Division (Agency 207)
as "float time." The "float time" will
be in the form of eight (8) hours of compensatory leave that
will be automatically credited to classified salaried employee
and research assistant leave balances.
The eight (8) hours of compensatory leave time will be credited
to classified employees comp special leave category during
the December 10 through December 24 semi-monthly pay period.
General faculty may take the additional eight (8) hours'
leave at the discretion of their managers. The compensatory
leave must be used within 12 months of the date earned.
As always, essential University operations will be maintained
as required. In circumstances where employees may have to
work on a designated holiday (see list below), compensatory
leave will be awarded. Compensatory leave should be taken
as soon as possible, but not later than 12 months following
the designated holiday worked. There will be no carry forwards
approved of unused balances for the comp spec leave category.
Managers have been asked to give maximum consideration to
the preferences of employees for using the additional compensatory
leave. In addition, managers have been asked to coordinate
employee leave so that offices are adequately staffed and
service to the public is not disrupted.
The additional holiday time does not apply to Medical Center
(Agency 209) employees.
