I am writing to inform you of the proposed 2001-02
fringe benefit rates (burden rates in UVA HRMS) for all University
and sponsored accounts. Even though we have not yet received
approval from the Department of Health and Human Services,
you should begin using them for developing proposal budgets
for July 1, 2001. You should continue to use the current rates
through June 30, 2001

- Salaries include faculty salaries paid over nine or twelve
months.
- Salaries include all classified salaries.
- Salaries include all part-time faculty salaries and part-time
classified salaries.
- Wages include hourly employees, 9-pay faculty payments
made during June-August, amounts paid to students who are
not registered during the summer, and overtime payments
to classified employees.
Each year's rates are effective with salaries
and wages paid on or after July 1 and should be used when
preparing budgets to which fringe benefits are charged, including
sponsored program proposals. Please note the new rates are
based on pay dates, not when the time was actually worked.
