In 2001 under the direction of Yoke San Reynolds, our Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, University Human Resources created the Executive and Management Search Group (EMSG). This specialized, internal executive search team was charged to assist with assisting in the recruitment efforts with for senior level searches positions throughout the University of Virginia.

EMSG assists with the administration of well run, credible, and confidential search process and delivers a diverse, high quality pool of candidates through a strong recruitment effort. We assume the responsibility of handling all administrative duties necessary to conduct the search, including Committee and candidate communications, placement of advertising, direct recruitment efforts, development of assessment and feedback reporting tools, candidate scheduling and document management, all of which normally can be a burden on the Hiring Official's department. This allows the department to pursue its primary purpose without also taking on the responsibilities of an executive search firm.

Most importantly, as University employees, we are able to provide executive recruitment services with an understanding and first-hand knowledge of the culture. Our enthusiasm for the mission of the institution is part of every recruitment call. With an intimate knowledge of the department and the position, we can speak with authority about the candidate's role in the new position.

We create value by building relationships with our departments and through communication with individuals seeking to lend their expertise to the University. To date EMSG has conducted over 70 key searches for the University for various departments.
