Benefits of Technology Based Training

Maximizing Individual Learning Styles:
Through technology-based training's design, you have the freedom to work at your own pace, and move on to new material when you are ready. The environment is private and non-competitive. You may be assigned topics of study or you can create your own personalized training programs. At your convenience, you can practice exercises, review information, or repeat portions as needed to gain competence in the material. This builds a strong foundation for continued learning.

Just In Time Delivery: Technology based training is readily available when you require it. This provides maximum flexibility to you as schedules and projects permit. It can be used as a refresher or performance support tool, because training is accessible on an ongoing basis.

Cost Effective: Technology based training lowers training expenses by reducing delivery costs such as instructors, facilities, and travel.

Instructional Consistency: Technology based training does not vary in quality from day to day, class to class, or environment to environment, because the information and presentation remains consistent. The same content is delivered to every user regardless of location.

Reduced Learning Time: The benefits and value of hands-on instruction produce shortened learning curves, faster times to full productivity, and better mastery of instructional objectives. This makes better use of the limited time you have for training. Technology based training can also be incorporated into classroom instruction, or used as a prerequisite to provide baseline skills to maximize classroom time.

Precision Learning: Courses use online assessments and descriptive menus to enable you to go to the precise content that you want or need. This capability provides an efficient method of training on only the topics in need, while filtering out the topics already known.

Taking a Technology Skills Course

The average course takes 6 - 8 hours to complete from start to finish. However, each course has a bookmark feature, enabling you to complete as much or as little of the course as your time allows. When you exit a course, your progress is saved and a bookmark is created. You can return to the same course right where you left off when you have more time.

Three Ways to Learn:
  1. Take the Entire Course: If you have no prior experience with the course content, take the course in its entirety. You may choose to skip the Preassessment. Work through each unit, lesson, and topic, and then complete the post assessment.

  2. Utilize the Precision Learning Track: If you have some prior knowledge of the course content, but need additional training, use the Precision Learning Track. Complete the Preassessment. Based on your answers, an individualized Precision Learning Track is compiled that determines which units, lesson, and topic you should cover. Once you have completed your individualized course content, take the post assessment.

  3. Review Topics as Needed: If you are already a skilled user of the course content, you may want to review specific topics as needed. For example, you are working on a PowerPoint presentation, and you can't remember how to add animation. Open the PowerPoint course, and locate "animation" in the Course Menu, located on the first page of the course. Complete the training on that topic only, and return to your work to apply the skill.
Each course begins with a course menu. Begin your first course by clicking HELP in the upper right corner of your screen and review Playing a Course.

Taking a Professional Skills Course

These seminars challenge you to learn important professional skills, and apply your knowledge in simulations that mirror real experiences you may encounter on the job. You will be given a scenario, and will interact with virtual characters to work through a series of skills modules. Each skill module consists of a question and answer session, a short quiz, and a simulation. The average professional skills course will take from 2 - 4 hours to complete.
